TORTA TIFFANY

È passato un bel po’ di tempo ma il caldo non accenna ad andarsene e continua imperterrito a squagliare l’asfalto, crearmi malori e a non farmi lavorare con la pasta di zucchero (maneggiarla ora è come cercare di dar forma all’acqua).

Così chiusa nelle mie quattro mura, con i condizionatori a salvarmi la vita, vi volevo parlare della mia torta Tiffany. Che impresa può essere stata per una che non ha mai visto né il film né tantomeno un pacchetto di Tiffany (sono un maschiaccio, non porto bracciali collane e le uniche cose che indosso sono i miei migliaia di piercings alle orecchie)?

Tutto comincia con il compleanno della ragazza di un mio amico, che contattandomi un mesetto prima mi chiede una torta per la sua bellissima ragazza, un pacchetto regalo. Subito incuriosita gli chiedo “ma cosa le hai fatto come regalo?” e lui mi dice “una catenina di Tiffany”…. Come potrete ben immaginare a questo punto l’associazione è scattata immediatamente: farò il pacchetto regalo di Tiffany!!! La seconda cosa che mi è venuta in mente è stata però:” ok,ma come è fatto?

 È scattata così un’assemblea plenaria nella mia cucina tra le donne di casa (essenzialmente mia madre e mia sorella) con vere liti sul tono di colore del pacco, sul nastro, sulla scritta, mentre mio padre faceva quello che san fare meglio gli uomini davanti a disquisizioni del genere: far finta di niente, e anche io sinceramente mi sono associata a lui, chiedendo di sapere solo la loro decisione finale sul colore (verde acqua o azzurro?), sul nastro (bianco, perlescente, con cuciture, di raso etc.), e sulla scritta (oro o nero, che caratteri usare)…  Dopo all’incirca 3 giorni finalmente è arrivata la fumata bianca dalla cucina sede dell’assemblea ( e non era per aver bruciato qualcosa), così è iniziato il progetto.

Se la festeggiata è stata contenta???assolutamente sì, ed anche io visto che non essendo una fashion victim non speravo in un risultato così buono!

TIFFANY CAKE

 

Some time passed… but it’s still very hot: the asphalt is still melting, I often feel sick and I can’t work with the sugar paste (working with it is like shaping water).

So I’m closed in my house, with the air conditioning saving my life, and I want to talk to you about my Tiffany cake. That was a real challenge for someone that never saw the movie or a Tiffany package like me (I’m a tomboy, I don’t wear necklaces or bracelets and the only things I wear are a thousand of piercings).

Everything started with the birthday of my friend’s girlfriend. He contacted me a month before the birthday to ask me to make a package shaped cake for his beautiful girlfriend.  Since I was curious I asked him “ what are you going to give her as a present?” and he told me “ a Tiffany necklace”. As you can imagine the idea came up immediately: I’m going to make the Tiffany package!!! But the second thing that came up to me was “Ok, but how does it look like?”.

So an assembly was made in my kitchen with the girls of my family (essentially my mother and my sister) with real fights on the color of the package, on the ribbon, on the writing, while my dad was doing what a man best does in front of fights: pretend that nothing is happening, and honestly I also did that, asking them to tell me only the final decision on the color ( teal or light blue?), on the ribbon (white, pearlescent, with seams, made of satin etc.), and on the writing (gold or black, which type of writing)…after 3 days the decision was taken, without any injured, and we started the project.

You might be asking yourself if the birthday girl was happy…Absolutely yes! And even I was very happy about the result!

Mi dispiace che in questi giorni la fretta regni sovrana,  ma volevo pubblicare al volo le foto dei biscotti di San Valentino (visto che sono ancora in mood romantico grazie al matrimonio per cui ho fatto la torta) e i cupcakes fatti per un compleanno.

VALENTINE'S DAY AND A BIRTHDAY

These are full days for me,  but I' d like to post the pictures of my Valentine's day cookies ( I'm in a romantic mood yet , caused by the wedding party I went and by the wedding cake I made few days ago), and the cupcakes I made for one of my friends' birthday.

Compleanno per una fan di Avril Lavigne

Eccomi qui di nuovo a scrivere dopo una lunga pausa dovuta alla preparazione di una torta nuziale, a cui dedicherò un post apposito più avanti.
Siamo arrivati a Febbraio nell'aggiornamento, un mese infernale per me: i bisestili sono guardati con diffidenza, ma questo facevo meglio a bendarmi! Resoconto: operazione d'urgenza a mia madre a Firenze, conseguente impossibilità di fare il mio ultimo esame e quindi la tesi, esaurimento e camicia di forza molto vicini.
Capite che in un periodo così stressante, in cui giravo con i capelli stile maga magò (come dice una mia amica, il mio indice di esaurimento si misura in base al gonfiore della mia chioma), anche una semplice penna messa fuori posto poteva farmi diventare la "donna torcia" stile I fantastici 4. 
Però  tutto questo non è bastato a fermare il mio entusiasmo per un compito che mi era stato affidato all'ultimo momento: il compleanno di una grande amica di mia sorella, che innamorata dei miei dolci, aveva richiesto se possibile come regalo di compleanno le mie cupcakes! Si può deludere una ragazza dolcissima adolescente, magari inducendola a diventare poi una dark/emo/goth girl? Io non mi prendo queste responsabilità e così ho detto "Ma certo!" per poi pensare "Ma ca...volo!non ho niente della mia attrezzatura!".
Il problema si poneva per i coloranti e per attrezzi da lavoro, rimasti tutti a Roma, e per la tematica della festa,Avril Lavigne style, che imponeva decorazioni particolari stile teschi e roba punk, che capite sotto San Valentino è difficile trovare quanto un romano a Roma il giorno di ferragosto in via del corso.

Armata di buone intenzioni ( e di soli stuzzicadenti e cannucce per decorare) ho lavorato parecchio con questo risultato :

Non male per essere fatti solo usando coltello da cucina,stuzzicadenti e cannucce eh?? Ricordatevi cake designer in erba, in casa vostra e nella vostra mente c'è tutto il materiale sufficiente per poter creare cose carine (o forse ho avuto solo molta fortuna ).

BIRTHDAY FOR AN AVRIL LAVIGNE'S FAN

Here I am writing again after a long break caused by the preparation of a wedding cake, I’m going to make a specific post later on.

With the updating we’re finally on the month of February, an evil month for me: I’m not very confident with leap years, but this one particularly was terrible!. Summary: emergency surgery to my mom in Florence, this means I couldn’t take my last exam and couldn’t expose my thesis, breakdown and straitjacket very close.

You must understand  that in a period as stressful as this one, when I walked around with my hair done like a witch (a close friend of mine always says that my frustration can be measured by looking at my hair), even a pen that isn’t in the right place could turn me into the “Human Torch” of the Fantastic Four.

But all of this wasn’t enough to stop me from preparing another last minute big event: the birthday of my sister’s best friend, who is in love with my creations and who asked me if it was possible to have some of my cupcakes as birthday present! How could I disappoint a sweet teenage girl, maybe inducing her to become an dark/emo/goth girl? I didn’t want to take that  responsibility  so I said “of course” and after I thought “Oh s…..ugar, I don’t have my tools!”.

The major problem were the food dyes and tools, which were in Rome, and for the theme of the party , Avril Lavigne style,  I needed skulls  and punk stuff, which were very hard to find on Valentine’s day, as difficult as finding a Roman walking on Via del Corso on the 15^th of august.

Taking all my will ( and having only toothpicks and straws for decorating) I worked a lot and this is the result:

Not bad considering I used only kitchen knives, toothpicks and straws… don’t you think? To all the new cake designers, remember that everything that is needed for making a cake is in your home and in your head (or maybe I was just very lucky!).
